Best places to visit in Santorini

  • Ancient Thera: Visit the ancient city of Thera where you can see some of the oldest ruins in the world's civilization. Sitting on top of a mountain, this is also a great place to capture photos of the Aegean Sea and the surrounding landscape.
  • Fira: As the capital city of Santorini, Fira has many historical and cultural attractions for tourists to enjoy. This includes the Karavolades Stairs, the Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist, and Skaros Rock. Catch a ride on the cable car for a great view and a quick ride up and down the cliffs.
  • Oia: This is another large town on the island that overlooks the volcanic calderas and sits on the coast of the Aegean Sea. While visiting Oia you can go swimming at Amoudi Bay or make a visit to the Castle of St. Nicholas.

Winter in Santorini

You'll find Santorini to be less crowded in the winter months. However, you'll still have lots to do and see. On your winter Greek vacation, you can visit the hot springs of Santorini (also known as the Volcano Santorini) and Nea Kameni (an active volcano town), which you will reach by boat. Of course, there are numerous Greek restaurants and coffee shops where you can grab a cup of coffee and baklava, a layered pastry dessert.

Location was extremely convenient for pick up and drop off (right at the terminal). It took minutes to be in a car and same with return with very friendly staff. Car selection was excellent and priced well. Very happy we went w sixt! Note: depends what insurance you choose, you might have to leave a large deposit/hold on your credit card, which is released right after return. I heard this is standard with all car rental companies there.

Sixt was very economical and the majority of rental agencies are located outside the airport whereas Sixt was located in the arrivals section of the airport making pick up very efficient. I had a minor issue on my return and the customer service for Sixt was in immediate contact with me and resolved the issue promptly to my satisfaction. I will book again next time I am in Santorini!
