Driving Tips for Mexico

Driving in a foreign country is a good way to add flexibility to your journey. Our driving tips will keep you safe on the road:

  • Speed Limits: Expect speed limits of 40 kph (25 mph) in city areas, and up to 110 kph (68 mph) on highways.
  • Flashing Headlights: If an oncoming vehicle flashes its headlights, this means there's a hazardous road condition ahead.
  • Narrow Roads: If the road cannot fit two cars, sometimes one vehicle will pull over and turn its headlights off. This signals that the other vehicle can pass.
  • Rural Driving: Look out for animals and uneven parts of the road when driving in the countryside.
  • Speed Bumps: You will find speed bumps when approaching towns or areas with lots of people.
  • Left Turn Signal: Drivers switch on the left turn signal for many reasons, including turning, wanting you to pass, or simply forgetting to turn it off.

Best places to visit in Mexico

A SIXT car rental in Mexico gives you the flexibility to craft an itinerary. To make the most of your time in this vibrant country, check out these places:

  • Tulum: Cruise along the coastal roads and stop at beaches and seaside restaurants. For Mayan ruins and views of the ocean, stop at the Tulum Ruins and take advantage of the on-site parking.
  • Valle De Bravo: Located a two-hour drive from Mexico City, Valle De Bravo offers an upscale getaway in the pine forests. This colonial-era town is surrounded by mountains and offers hiking and waterfalls.
  • Copper Canyon: For views of canyons even bigger than the Grand Canyon, booking a rental car in Mexico is a good choice. Discover waterfalls, rugged cliffs, and oak trees from the comfort of your vehicle.

Whether you want to visit the best small towns in Mexico or take a road trip, a rental car with SIXT will help you get the most out of your visit.

Super nice and chill front desk and drivers for the shuttles. Took me less than 10 minutes to finish all paperwork needed and I was out. Made my first time visiting Mexico a blast, and for the insurance needed, just get the super insurance they have, you won't have any headaches about any accidents happening. I'll definitely rent again from them
