Driving Tips for Puerto Rico

Maximize your driving enjoyment in your SIXT rental car in Puerto Rico with these island driving tips:

  • On the right: As in America, you’ll be driving on the right when you rent a car in Puerto Rico.
  • Take time to understand: In Puerto Rico, road signs are in Spanish, speeds are in kilometers, and gas prices are measured per liter.
  • Speed limits: The general speed limits in Puerto Rico are 40 km/h (25 mph) in cities, 70 km/h (43 mph) in rural areas, 100 km/h (62 mph) on highways, and 25 km/h (15 mph) in school zones.
  • Speed bumps: Speed bumps are placed randomly throughout the island, so be vigilant. You will also encounter potholes—another good reason to drive your car rental in Puerto Rico cautiously.
  • Police cars: Don’t worry if you see a police car behind you with its lights on—police in Puerto Rico drive with their lights constantly flashing.
  • Animals in the road: On the island, animals will wander into the road with relative frequency, especially at night, so be vigilant and ready to stop.

Fantastic, detailed, top notch customer service. Hector is very professional, knowledgeable, and helpful! Bigger chains don’t have this level of customer care. Would definitely rent from Sixt again!
