Cape Cod

The Old Kings Highway, also known as Route 6A, in Cape Cod takes you through sleepy bayside towns with scenic views of historic homes and landmarks.

The Berkshires

The Berkshires is a region in the mountainous western part of the state and a popular vacation destination known for fall foliage and outdoor activities like skiing. A drive on Old Route 7 provides a great overview of the area, wandering through quaint towns and passing by historical landmarks. From antiquing to kayaking to snowboarding, there is something for everyone in this beautiful region.

Boston

It is difficult not to think of Boston when visiting Massachusetts. The state capital and largest city in New England, Boston is a bustling city filled with shops, restaurants, and museums. Follow the Freedom Trail to visit important historical sites and pass through the North End neighborhood or explore Beacon Hill to see some classic 18th century American architecture. Be sure to pick up a Boston Cream Pie as a sweet, but tasty treat.

Amherst

Amherst is a college town home to the University of Massachusetts, Amherst College, Smith College and more. Its abundance of students makes the atmosphere youthful and energetic. During the fall the surrounding mountains are full of trees turning color, and outdoor activities such as apple picking or famers markets are in abundance.

Springfield

Just 20 miles south of Amherst is Springfield. Host to many Victorian buildings, the McKnight District is worth driving through just to see these old, but beautiful homes. The Basketball Hall of fame is also located in Springfield.

Climate

There is always a reason to visit Massachusetts, regardless of what season it is. Warm summers allow for ample swim time in the ocean. Snowy winters coat the state in white, making it very much a winter wonderland. Massachusetts, and New England in general, is known for its colorful fall, where once green trees turn into a mix of reds, oranges, and yellows. Massachusetts is gorgeous year-round, but roads can be treacherous in the extremely cold winter months so exercise extra caution.

Cuisine

With its location on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean, much of the cuisine of Massachusetts is seafood-forward. In coastal towns like Provincetown you can eat clam chowder and fried clams. Lobster rolls are also sold all over New England, and Massachusetts is no exception. If you have a sweet tooth you can indulge in a Boston crème pie, yellow cake with cream or custard in the middle and chocolate glaze, or head to Dunkin’ Donuts, which was founded here.
